Jeff L. Williams
Chief Executive Officer
Jeff co-founded Clinipace Worldwide in 2003 with the idea of building a clinical research company that would take a different approach to managing clinical trials. He wanted to build a company where technology served as the foundation of the research. At Clinipace Worldwide, technology is in our DNA with Jeff and his team successfully delivering a new, optimized approach to conducting research resulting in strong year-over-year growth.
Prior to founding Clinipace Worldwide, Jeff held several executive-level positions within the life sciences and software industries. As CEO of NextAudio, an early pioneer in Internet-based services, he successfully merged the company with Koz to create Mediaspan where company expanded to over 200 employees and more than $26 million in sales.
Additionally, Jeff was a co-founder of HealthMatics, one of the first electronic medical records (EMR) software providers, which was sold to A4 Health and later acquired by Allscripts. Prior to these technology endeavors Jeff spent 10 years at Ciba (now Novartis) and 2 years at Glaxo Wellcome. During this period, he pioneered some of the earliest direct-to-consumer advertising campaigns within the industry and shared marketing-based responsibility for one of the largest Phase IV studies ever conducted at the time (over 10,000 patients).
Jeff has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with minors in Business Management and Biology from the University of Tampa.
He also serves on the Board of Directors for CampbellAlliance, the premiere management consulting firm specializing in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and Cathedral Corporation, a leader in print and electronic data output services.
In 2007 Jeff was named to the PharmaVoice 100, an annual listing of the 100 most influential people in the life sciences industry.
Christopher K. Porter
Chief Operating Officer
Chris co-founded Clinipace Worldwide and currently services as chief operating officer. Chris leads corporate and business development, legal affairs, and the professional services teams.
Prior to Clinipace Worldwide, Chris Porter served as vice president of corporate development & legal affairs for Drug Safety Alliance, Inc. (DSA). Additionally, Chris served as group manager of the Siebel Venture Group, Siebel Systems, Inc. where he was responsible for all of Siebel's venture transactions and management of a $30M portfolio with a specific interest in Life Science technology opportunities. Chris joined Siebel through Siebel's $542M acquisition of OpenSite Technologies where Chris was the original member of the business development group.
Chris has held various other positions in the life science industry including positions in sales and marketing for Glaxo, Inc. and Quintiles Transnational, and manager of legal & business affairs for AM Pappas & Associates, one of the largest life science venture capital firms in the Southeast.
Chris received his Juris Doctor and Masters of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998. Chris also earned his BA in Journalism/Advertising from UNC-CH in 1992.
In 2008 Chris was named to the PharmaVoice 100, an annual listing of the 100 most influential people in the life sciences industry.
Ron Marks, PhD
Chief Scientific Officer
Ron is a skilled and knowledgeable biostatistician and biomedical researcher, serving on the University of Florida faculty for 30 years in the Division of Biostatistics. In 2004 Ron retired from the University of Florida and now devotes his time to building Clinipace Worldwide and assisting in product design, trial execution, and customer support. He has an extensive background in the design, analysis and reporting of large-scale clinical trials and other research studies and has been a lead clinical trials consultant with a number of large pharmaceutical companies including Unilever, Braun, and SmithKline Beecham.
Ron is routinely consulted for his insight regarding the state of the art in electronic clinical trials. Recently, he has become a leader in the Electronic Data Management Forum (EDMF), a leading group of technologists from 24 biopharmaceutical companies and 18 associated businesses.
Prior to Clinipace Worldwide, Ron served as the Chairman of SmithKline's Data Safety and Monitoring Committee for its worldwide herpes clinical trials program. He has been very active his entire career on many large clinical trials and other clinical research studies; and his research has led to 130 scientific publications, a number of industry presentations and keynote addresses.
Ron has served in an administrative position as Director of the Division of Biostatistics at the University of Florida for 19 of his 30 years on the faculty.
W. H. (Bud) Owen
Chief Financial Officer
Bud leads the accounting, treasury and tax team and is a key member of the mergers and acquisitions team for the company. He initially joined Clinipace as an advisor for mergers and acquisitions on the the Worldwide Clinical Research merger team.
Prior to joining Clinipace, Bud served as chief financial officer at a number of large and small companies in the software, web services and manufacturing industries. Most recently, he was chief financial officer of MediaSpan Group, a software and web services company providing enterprise solutions for media companies, where he directed finance, human resources and IT functions. Bud also was chief financial officer of Reichhold Chemicals, a multinational chemical manufacturer, and was President of Tables Surfaces, a company he co-founded.
Bud is a veteran senior finance executive who brings extensive merger and acquisition expertise to Clinipace. During his career he has been either principal or advisor in over 30 M&A transactions with a total transaction value of $1 billion.
Bud has a Masters of Business Administration from Queens University (Canada). He is also a Chartered Accountant (Canada) and Ernst & Young (Toronto) alumni.
Daryl Porter
Chief Technology Officer
Daryl leads the service engineering, product engineering and cloud computing infrastructure teams.
Prior to Clinipace Worldwide, Daryl spent 18 years at Oracle Corporation and held several executive level positions in both enterprise product development and enterprise support services.
Daryl spent most of his career at Oracle in the Database Tools’ Division as a programmer, Manager and Vice President where he managed teams from 3 to 300 with commensurate responsibilities around strategic direction, operational execution, budget and performance.
Daryl concluded his tenure at Oracle as the Vice President in Advanced Support Services where he was responsible for streamlining software life cycle services for global, distributed teams of over 10,000 software professionals in 5 countries; architectural assessments for Fortune 100 Customers in Health care, Government, Financial & Telecomm industries to accelerate the adoption of GRID computing & LINUX; and was appointed to manage the Oracle-Red Hat relationship as the Oracle OnDemand Service Executive.
Additionally, He was an integral member of the M&A technical team tasked with conducting due diligence on Oracle’s acquisitions of Siebel and People Soft.
Daryl holds an MSE in Computer Science from Princeton University, a BS in Mathematical Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
John Larus
Executive Vice President, Clinical Operations
In his role, John is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the project management, clinical monitoring and safety groups within the U.S. clinical operations unit at Clinipace Worldwide.
Prior to joining Clinipace Worldwide, John served as Chief Operating Officer at Fulcrum Pharma Developments, Inc., which is the U.S. business unit of Fulcrum Pharma Developments Plc, a pharmaceutical and regulatory consulting company. John has held several senior management positions at contract research organizations and eClinical firms, including AAI Pharma, Magguzi, and Novella Clinical (formerly known as PharmaLinkFHI). Additionally, John was a co-founder at PharmaLink and was instrumental in leading the firm through its acquisition by Family Health International (FHI).
John holds a MA in Quantitative Psychology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as a BA in Psychology from Johns Hopkins University.
Barbara J. Geiger
Executive Vice President, Oncology and Latin America
Barb has over 25 years experience in the conduct and management of Oncology clinical development programs and in the evaluation and selection of global clinical trial vendors. Prior to founding Worldwide Clinical Research (acquired by Clinipace Worldwide in 2009), she spent 10 years at global CROs where she was Director of Project Management and Director of International Partners. Additionally, Barb spent 8 years at a major pharmaceutical company and started her clinical research career in a Phase I/II private research unit.
A graduate of the University of Kansas with degrees in Human Biology and Nursing, Barb focused on oncology nursing. She also attended the Columbia University Senior Executive Program.
Brenda P. Fielding
Executive Vice President, Regulatory Affairs
Brenda has more than 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, primarily in the area of Regulatory Affairs and Quality. She joins Clinipace Worldwide through the acquisition of Regulus Pharmaceutical Consulting, where she served as President and Board Chair. She has held senior management positions in US pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, including Cortech, Gilead Sciences, and Napro BioTherapeutics, Inc. (now Tapestry Pharmaceuticals, Inc.). She has been involved in the successful clinical development of novel drugs, biologics, and drug delivery systems, over a wide range of therapeutic areas including oncology, anti-infectives, immunotherapeutics and ophthalmology. She regularly represents clients at meetings with Regulatory Authorities, including the US Food and Drug Administration.
Brenda received her BSc from London University, UK and attended graduate school in London. Brenda has been the invited speaker at numerous drug development and regulatory affairs seminars and conferences, and has chaired symposia for professional organizations.
David Levin
Vice President, Global Marketing
David brings extensive experience in delivering bookings and revenue growth, P&L management, and strategic communications to Clinipace Worldwide.
Prior to joining Clinipace Worldwide, David held senior management roles in corporate marketing and product and innovation management at MEDSEEK, etrials, and MercuryMD. In these positions, he introduced more than six new software products, generating over $50 millions in cumulative sales; and successfully started and sold [as part of the original management team] MercuryMD – a leader in hospital-based mobility software – for a significant multiple (5x revenue) to the Thomson Corporation (aka, Thomson Reuters).
David holds a Masters Degree in health planning from the University of Georgia and a Bachelors degree in biomechanics from Kent State University.
Hampton Corley
Vice President, Business Development
Hampton leads the sales organization, where he is the primary advocate for prospective customers, ensuring that we deliver solutions that solve their problems. Hampton leads the company's efforts to ensure continued revenue growth.
Hampton brings over 13 years of technology and outsourced business process management sales and management experience to his roles at Clinipace Worldwide. Previously, he served as vice president of sales at PSIMedica, the healthcare analytics division of Bio-Reference Laboratories where he was instrumental in the growth and evolution of the sales organization through the creation of innovative territory management plans, pipeline development, sales segmentation and growth strategies. Earlier in his career, Hampton held various sales and sales management positions at Ariba, GeoTel Communications (acquired by Cisco Systems), and PTC.
Hampton holds Bachelor of Science degree in business from University of Georgia.
